Youth Ministry at FUMC is energetic and active. We have a program designed to fit student needs. We care about kids and understand the pressure they are under. Variety allows young people the opportunity to determine with their families what activities fit their lifestyle. Our goal is to provide an environment where the Holy Spirit can work in and among us.
UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) Meet on Sunday evenings at 5:30 PM with dinner first. Food is very important to teens! Then we play some games or hang out until small groups (split by gender and age group). In small groups, we read a Bible text and discuss. We share our ideas and pray. At about 7pm we go to worship! We sing praise music and there is sharing and prayer and teaching just for us! UMYF will not meet August 22 - September 12. UMYF will resume with a Fall Kick-Off on September 19th with a parent meeting at 4:30pm.
Youth Sunday School 9:45 AM meet in the Family Life Center Building. Junior High meet in Room 2004 and High School meet in Room 1011.
Confirmation Confirmation is a tradition of the United Methodist Church when the young person can “Claim the Name” of Christian for him or herself, completing the Baptismal Sacrament. Our 8th graders are invited to participate in a fourteen-week course taught during Sunday School hour as preparation for their Confirmation in the Spring. The curriculum includes class discussion, field trips, and service opportunities. We celebrate Confirmation with a Brunch for the Confirmands and their families and with participation during one of our Worship Services. Questions about Confirmation or Baptism for your student? Call Rev. Lani Rousseau at 281-391-2121, ext. 61
Celebration Singers The Celebration Singers Youth Choir, grades 6th thru 12th, is a very active group of youth who rehearse weekly and participate in worship services throughout the year. The Celebration Singers bring the message of God yearly as they travel each summer on Youth Choir Tour to churches, nursing homes and retirement centers.
The Celebration Singers meet every Sunday at 4:30 PM during the school calendar year, in the Education Building Choir Room on the 2nd floor.
Youth Missions 2010 has been an amazing year for Youth Missions. Our youth have served the homeless in down town Houston, worked to rebuild and repair homes in San Augustine with UM ARMY, and our Jr. High youth worked in Galveston to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. Lives are changed and transformed by youth mission experiences. Keep our young people in your prayers as they work to serve others.
Risk Taking Missions Throughout the year we will be looking at different mission areas in the world and how we can serve. Topics ranging from AIDS in Africa to Homelessness.
